Responsibilities:

The Director, Career Planning & Student Organizations will be responsible for the development and implementation of a new division within Student Services, Career Planning & Development. This division will be designed as both a co-curricular and direct student resource, delivering coordinated systematic virtual and on ground opportunities to students related to career & professional development.
The Career Planning division will provide resources for the following service areas:
  • Career development: opportunities for students to discover or reaffirm their personal and occupational/professional strengths, interests, and abilities, including skills assessment resources, interest inventories, etc;
  • Professional development: support and coordinate with academic units the inclusion of a career/professional development co-curriculum integrated with degree programs; 
  • Career enhancement: provide students opportunities to
    •   become immersed in professional environments via internships or externships,
    • participate in leadership/management opportunities e.g.
      • seminars on staff management, running meetings, effective use of power point, conferencing skills, group dynamics, social networking,
  • Career Acquisition: through multiple delivery methods and outreach efforts, provide resources related to
    • Resume and portfolio development and presentation
    • Professional networking, job search strategies
    • Interviewing skills
    • Placement/occupation availability resources
    • Virtual & campus career fairs, job boards
  • Development and implementation of Student Peer Advisory/Resource Service
  • Development and implementation of an Alumni Mentor/Resource Service
  • Coordination and support of campus based career development programs
  • Support student organizations in delivery of career related resources and programming
  • Development and maintenance of a comprehensive Career Development resource site in My Window
  • Serve as a member of the Student Services division leadership team, performing other duties and functions as required; serve on appropriate university committees and task forces
TYPE OF SUPERVISION RECEIVED:  General direction from the Associate Vice Chancellor.  While incumbent will provide information and make decisions, incumbent will conduct business using reflected authority following established policies and procedures.

POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  
Essential functions:  100% of time
Development and implementation of:
 
  • Online self-help resources, knowledge bases and links to appropriate websites;
  • Online webinars & tutorials
  • Online and on ground courses/workshops/events
  • Synchronous and asynchronous direct services to students delivered online and/or on ground, including chat, email, phone, in person
  • Outreach to campus constituencies re: creation and implementation of division services & resources
  • Outreach to community employment resources, development of virtual information resource related to employment opportunities, internships, externships, mentor programs, student network opportunities
  • Coordination with academic and administrative departments re: development of co-curricular career planning resources, projects, opportunities
  • Coordination with academic and administrative departments re: development of internship and externship opportunities
  • Coordination with Veterans/Military Services division re: development & implementation of student programs, student support, peer development
  • Supervise support staff, student resource specialists, student workers

Qualifications:

Special Conditions of Employment:  Need valid driver's license and vehicle for travel.  Applicants for this position are subject to a criminal history. Periodic travel to Brandman campuses; flexible schedule with periodic evening and weekend responsibilities

Previous Experience: 
Required:  5+ years administrative experience in higher education either as division director, associate director, or equivalent position of responsibility in the field of career counseling/career development. Demonstrated successful experience in development of virtual career services and social media applications. Demonstrated experience in working with adult learners, military transition, internship development, establishing and ongoing management of strategic partnerships and relationships with university academic and administrative departments, advisory boards, employers, and other external constituents.
Knowledge and Education:  Master’s degree, background in higher education administrative policy, regulations, procedures, including FERPA, ADA; demonstrated proficiency in written and oral skills including public speaking.
