Responsibilities:

The Site Director/SAA is responsible for the daily operation of the site in accordance with University mission and policies.  These responsibilities are performed in collaboration with the Campus Director and Regional Director.  Assist in development and implementation of outreach program strategies in order to increase marketing effectiveness and enrollments.  Create and implement office procedures to ensure an effective and efficient office.  Reports to Campus Director in establishing goals and expectations.

The Senior Academic Advisor side of the position is responsible for providing consultation, guidance and professional leadership in the development of advisement and retention programs, initiatives and strategies for the assigned campus.  Advise undergraduate and graduate students on the development of individual learning outcomes based on their skills, goals responsibilities and experiences.  Analyze and resolve complex and/or sensitive student issues associated with program requirements, course scheduling and degree matriculation.  Collaborate with faculty, campus directors and central office to identify creative solutions to enhance the student’s overall educational experience.  Prepare summary analysis, evaluative reports and recommendations for Campus Director, Regional Director and Vice Chancellor.  Develop retention and outreach support services for academic programs.  May provide training and/or supervise local staff.

POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  
Essential functions: 
ACADEMIC ADVISING
  • Provide consultation, guidance, and professional leadership in the development of advisement programs, initiatives and strategies for the assigned campus.
    • Advise undergraduate and graduate students on the development of individual learning outcomes based on their skills, goals, responsibilities and experiences
    • Review student records and meet with individual students to assess their educational, vocational and life goals
    • Work with students to develop and update short and long-term plans to meet those goals, while ensuring compliance to standards, policies and procedures
    • Encourage and provide training to students on utilizing online resources (i.e. web advisor, Brandman email, online library, etc.)
    • Monitor individual student progress and perform proactive advising outreach to students
    • Prepare supporting documents for student advising files
  • Analyze and resolve complex and/or sensitive student issues associated with program requirements, course scheduling and degree matriculation
    • Interpret, apply and recommend exception to academic policies for student degree requirements and academic progress as needed
  • Collaborate with faculty, campus director, and central office to identify creative solutions to enhance the student’s overall educational experience
    • Provide expert consultation to faculty and campus director relating to availability of learning resources and/or accommodations for students
  • Pursue and demonstrate content expertise regarding specific degree, credential and certificate programs
  • Pursue and demonstrate content expertise regarding current learning outcome model of academic advising as endorsed by the National Academic Advising Association
  • Conduct and facilitate new student orientation sessions both individually and as a group.
  • May provide training and/or oversee an Academic Advisor.
RETENTION MANAGEMENT
  • Develop and implement retention action plans for academic programs at the assigned campus.
  • Develop and implement student programming activities to enhance the overall educational experience of students at the campus
  • Prepare program summary analyses, evaluative reports and recommendations for Campus Director and Vice Chancellor.
  • Pursue exit interviews with students who withdraw from the university in order to improve current retention plans and develop new plans to address emerging issues.
  • Assist in developing long term and session course schedules.
OUTREACH
  • Develop and implement community outreach efforts. 
    • Participate in local education fairs and meetings with local business leaders to promote campus programs and develop partnerships with the community
    • Conduct information sessions for prospective students
    • Work in close collaboration with community colleges
    • Meet with Counselors, instructors and students at the local community colleges
  • Participate in the development and implementation of specific program strategy at the assigned campus, using content specific knowledge, in order to increase marketing effectiveness and program enrollments.
    • Respond to complex inquiries relating to program requirements, curriculum and course offerings
  • Develop and implement a marketing plan in conjunction with the Campus Director and the Director of Marketing
  • Manage Early Advantage Transfer Agreements, Articulation Agreements, etc…
TESTING AND EDUCATIONAL SERVICES
  • Manage testing and comprehensive exam or final project administration at the local campus and in cooperation with the Orange Campus and the central office.
  • Develop current articulation, student teaching, internship agreements with external entities, as needed.
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of Campus Graduation, credential completion and other campus events.     
OVERSIGHT, SUPERVISION AND ASSESSMENT
  • Supervise staff employees in consultation with Campus Director
  • Provide daily leadership and task assignments for other staff at campus
  • Respond to special requests from the Campus Director and the Central Office as required
PLANNING AND ORGANIZATION
  • Work closely with the Campus Director in developing a strategic plan which is consistent with Brandman University overall and regional plans
  • In conjunction with the Campus Director and faculty, develop and maintain annual and term schedules
  • Provide guidance and direction to department staff that are assisting with ongoing program projects
ADMINISTRATION
  • Oversee all aspects of registration process
  • Pay invoices/bills in accordance with Brandman University policy
  • Review and approve faculty pay; generate and process faculty contracts

Qualifications:

Previous Experience: 
Required: 
  • 3-5 years directly related experience, preferably in a higher education institution.
  • Demonstrated professional expertise, technical leadership and project management within academic advising and enrollment management.
  • Thorough understanding and demonstrated expertise in the application of the learning outcome model of academic advising as endorsed by the National Academic Advising Association.
  • Detailed knowledge of General Education and transfer requirements, with demonstrated ability to critically evaluate student records and transcripts.
  • Working knowledge of enrollment management and retention best practices and the ability to apply them to an adult learning environment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of curriculum for degree, credential and certificate programs.
  • Working knowledge of student information systems as related to student records and advising, preferably of Datatel Colleague and e-advising.
  • Working knowledge of federal regulations such as Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) as it relates to student accommodation.
  • Understanding of internships and career opportunities for diverse programs and/or degrees.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to explain academic policies and procedures to diverse constituents, including students, faculty and staff.
  • Experience in interpreting, applying, and recommending exception to academic policies for student degree requirements and academic progress.
  • Experience in resolving complex academic issues that also involve the vocational and life goals of the student.
  • Excellent analytical skills to gather data and analyze information to provide accurate recommendations/referrals.
  • Highly skilled in the assessment of the learning needs of individual students based on the students’ skills, goals, responsibilities and experiences.
  • Skill to develop creative and innovative solutions to complex student issues.
  • Strong organizational skills to prioritize workload and provide counseling and advice to assigned students in a timely manner.
  • Skill to work both independently as a team member.
  • Strong writing skills to prepare clear, concise and grammatically correct documents, reports and correspondence.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to interact with diverse constituents and to provide high quality support and customer service to students.
  • Sensitivity to the needs of students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to use tact and diplomacy and maintain high level of confidentiality.
  • Ability to abide by the ethical standards and guidelines for academic advising.
  • Computer skills in the use of word processing, spreadsheet, database, electronic mail and internet applications, preferably of Microsoft Office Suite software.
  • Technical skills to learn and use online tools and administrative software.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Demonstrated skills to perform outreach and conduct persuasive public presentations of educational programs.
  • Ability to perform arithmetic calculations such as add, subtract, multiply, divide, and percentages.
  • Ability to establish and maintain office files.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience in higher education institution
  • Working knowledge of Brandman University mission, catalog, policies and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of and experience in the application of adult learning principles and higher education policies.

Knowledge and Education:  Bachelor’s degree. Master’s degree is preferred.
