Responsibilities:

Brandman University, Irvine Central Office, is accepting applications for an Instructional Technology Specialist. Under the general supervision of the Manager, Online Learning Support Services, assist the online and blended course teams in providing more advanced technical, administrative and logistical support for online components of graduate and undergraduate courses. Provide support to LMS (Learning Management System) users in the investigation, analysis, and resolution of all problems related specifically to the Blackboard and its integrated applications. Prepare course content to be uploaded into the LMS in cooperation with faculty and instructional design team using basic HTML coding and audio/visual modalities. Position requires extensive interaction with instructional designers and faculty members who are teaching, developing, updating or modifying courses as well as, with multi-levels of university personnel across multiple departments. Assist the online and blended course teams with functions as required. Keep abreast of emerging instructional design applications and technology. Maintain and improve technical and related administrative functions of the Blackboard system, as well as its related hardware and software.

  • In collaboration with the curriculum teams and instructional designers, assist with building, development and re-development of online and blended courses using the Bb LMS. Course building work will include uploading documents designed and developed by faculty, creating discussions, group work, webliographies, library resources, links to internal and external sites and resources, exam and quiz building.

  • Provide application and advanced technical support to Brandman LMS users and its integrated applications.

  • Provide escalated help and support over the phone and internet for Brandman users in troubleshooting and problem solving in the more advanced technical uses of the LMS platform.

  • Assistance in maintaining and tracking of systems for instructional design and courseware development projects, as needed.

  • Assist with the development of instructional materials for workshops and LMS trainings.

  • Collaborate with Manager of Online Course Administration to plan the development and revision of online and blended programs and courses. 

  • Provide assistance with approved policies and procedures, under the guidance of the online and blended course team, relating to Blackboard course management that could include course archiving, portal functions, user roles, user privileges and authentication, and authorization.

  • Communicate with other university support services to coordinate support for online and blended faculty, students, and potential students in an attempt to make the entire online education experience more user-friendly, effective, and seamless.


Special Conditions of Employment: 

This position may require travel to various Brandman campus locations for course building and training purposes. It requires the selected candidate to provide their own transportation to travel to and from these locations. Some weekend and evening hours may be required. The position will be located at the Brandman University Central Offices which are located in Irvine, California. This is an onsite/office based position and telecommuting is not permitted.

 

 

Qualifications:

Previous Experience: 

Required:
• Moderate/Advanced technical skills, specifically with Learning Management Systems/Blackboard preferred.
• Sufficient analytical skills to troubleshoot software and hardware user problems.
• Ability to facilitate faculty payroll procedures.
• Strong familiarity with both PC and Mac operating environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including communicating technical information in terms understandable to faculty clients.
• Ability and willingness to work independently in a team environment, with limited supervision.
• Proven customer service skills which include diplomatically, patiently, and successfully handling problems, questions, conflicts, and suggestions.
• Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment within scope of delegated authority.
• B.A. degree required / or equivalent work experience with an IT emphasis desired. Knowledge of best practices in blended course and fully online course delivery technology areas.
• Some Web and multimedia development experience and/or training required.
 
Desired Qualifications:

• Ability to take initiative in providing support to the Blackboard users, as well as, an understanding of the different needs and perspectives of different departments within the non-profit educational institution.
• Experience in delivering technology-based learning.
Knowledge and Education:
