Responsibilities:

The Senior Accountant will primarily assist the AC in the coordination and processing of the University’s monthly financial statement and reporting activities along with the preparation of supporting schedules, performing analysis of revenues and expenditures and assisting in the documentation and monitoring of internal controls.     

Essential functions:  100% of time
  • Assists the AC with the monthly close and the preparation of the financial statements.
  • Prepares monthly bank reconciliations for each account.
  • Prepares monthly journal entries – accruals, prepaids, insurance, depreciation calculation, CIP, etc.
  • Ensures that monthly P-Card file is uploaded to Banner and that charges are correctly applied.
  • Reconciles federal work study funds monthly.
  • Works with Accounts Payable staff to ensure that A/P is reconciled to General Ledger monthly. 
  • Posts positive pay files, follows up on ACH/CC deposits/reconciling items.
  • Post federal aid cash and return of funds transactions.
  • Prepare federal aid draws.
  • Maintains cash receipts by ensuring that each cashiering session is reconciled and closed out properly.
  • Works with A/R staff to ensure that student accounts receivable is reconciled to the general ledger monthly.
  • Assists in the reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts.  
  • Assists with special projects as necessary.

Qualifications:

Special Conditions of Employment:  Working conditions are normal for an office environment. Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work.  Need to be able to work flexible hours particularly given campuses’ extended hours of operation and during annual audits. Applicants for this position are subject to a criminal history and credit review.

Previous Experience: 
  • Required:  A minimum of four years accounting experience with increasing responsibilities.  Understanding of GAAP as it applies to accrual based accounting, fixed assets, and organizational auditing.
  • Desired Qualifications:  Experience with Banner or similar enterprise resource system experience.  High level of moral character and personality to effectively work will with others in a collegial manner across all levels of the University. 
  • Knowledge of Argos Evisions report writing programs.
Knowledge and Education: 
  • Required:  Bachelor’s degree in accounting or closely related financial or business field. 
  • Desired Qualifications:  Experience with Higher Education and related higher education ERP system with preference to experience in Banner. 

Machines, Tools, Equipment, Electronic Devices and Software:  PC with Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.
