Responsibilities:

Coordinates activities of the Immersive Learning and Simulation Center for the School of Nursing and Health Professions in conjunction with the Dean of the School of Nursing and the Director of Immersive Learning and Simulation Center. Facilitates faculty development and implementation of simulation resources and training into their programs. Coordinates smooth lab operations including audiovisual, computer network and software, and supply needs. Assists with teaching activities including internal and external marketing of the School of Nursing. Must be available to work some evenings and weekends as needed. Performs other duties as needed.

TYPE OF SUPERVISION RECEIVED:  General direction from the Director.  While incumbent will provide information and make decisions, incumbent will conduct business using reflected authority following established policies and procedures.

Primary Job Duties

  • Coordinates activities of simulation center for the School of Nursing and Health Professions, in conjunction with the Dean of the School of Nursing and the Director of Immersive Learning and Simulation Center.
  • Works independently and balances priorities for use of the Simulation Center by Brandman University and community programs.
  • Participates in public relations duties including tours/demonstrations in the Simulation Center for alumni and other potential donors.
  • Facilitates faculty development for integrating use of Simulation Center resources into their programs.
  • Coordinates smooth lab operations including audiovisual, computer network and software, and supply needs.
  • Performs weekly cleaning and maintenance of simulation manikins and audiovisual equipment.
  • Ensures security of all equipment and learning resources.
  • Orients faculty and students to simulation center equipment and supplies.
  • Operates simulation equipment, including set up and breakdown of simulator and props needed for each scenario.
  • Researches and contributes articles to peer reviewed journals relating to high fidelity medical simulation.
  • Collaborates on simulation oriented research studies.
  • Assists faculty in developing and implementing simulation scenarios.
  • Assists with teaching activities of the School of Nursing and Health Professions.

Qualifications:

Special Conditions of Employment:  Requires reliable transportation for travel as needed.

Previous Experience:  Minimum 2 years of clinical health care experience simulation experience required.
  • Required:  Essential Technical/Motor Skills: Able to read, write legibly and speak in English with professional quality; use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position e.g., Word, Excel, simulator programs. Understand basic object oriented programming; knowledge of linear/nonlinear audio video editing; operate/troubleshoot and calibrate simulators and basic office equipment required for the job. Able to perform or are familiar with basic patient care procedures.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Must be able to communicate effectively at a professional level in writing, on the telephone, one-on-one, and with large or small groups. Must demonstrate good leadership and supervision skills. Must have the ability to work and stay calm under pressure and with interruptions.
  • Essential Mental Abilities: Advanced planning and organizational skills, critical thinking and setting priorities.
  • Essential Sensory Requirements: Sight, touch, hearing and smell intact. Able to identify color-coded electrical/mechanical components, able to distinguish colors. Able to read computer screens and written documents. Able to hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone, able to identify and distinguish various sounds associated with mechanical equipment and stethoscope auscultation for appropriate patient examination. Able to distinguish temperature variations through touch, vibration sensation intact. Able to distinguish various odors characteristic of equipment malfunction and odorous gases.

Desired Qualifications: 

Knowledge and Education:  Bachelor’s degree in education, health science, or administration required: Minimum 2 years direct medical simulation experience required. Minimum 2 years emergency room, operating room, or other acute health care experience preferred.
